Navajo captain wants state help

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2002 The newly promoted captain of the Shiprock Department of Criminal Investigation said he wants to have New Mexico police officers to have police powers on his part of the Navajo Nation. Currently, state police officers cannot arrest Navajo tribal members or Indian motorists. Lt. Douglas Joe, whose prior post was detective, said the tribe needs the help from the state. Get the Story:
