Jury considers death for Navajo killer

MONDAY, APRIL 22, 2002

A jury in New Mexico will hear testimony this week before deciding whether a man they found guilty or murdering a Navajo woman should be put to death.

Jurors already agreed Robert Ray Fry should face the possibility of the death penalty. They came to that conclusion on Friday, a day after they found him guilty on all counts.

Fry and co-defendant Leslie Engh were charged in the June 2000 killing of Betty Lee. Engh pleaded guilty and testified against Fry.

Fry could also be sentenced to life in prison.
