Navajo man an 'Eligible Bachelor'
JULY 6, 2000

Leo Watchman, a 33-year-old Navajo Nation man, is currently featured in the pages of People Magazine, having been chosen one of America's 100 Most Eligible Bachelors.

Picked as one of the list's "regular guys," Watchman seems hardly an ordinary fellow. Not only is Watchman the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation for the Navajo Nation, he's also a New Mexico State representative, serving District 9.

Watchman and the other bachelors were picked by the magazine after a four month nationwide search. Their search turned up 100 men from throughout the country and from all walks of life and all ages, although it appears Watchman is the only Native male on the list.

The list, of course, features some of the country's favorite celebrities, such as George Clooney and Ben Affleck. And already there is contention on who is on the list and who is not.

On People Magazine's web site, you can weigh in your opinions on the list. Watchman has been chosen as one of 20 regular guys featured on the site's pages.

At the site, viewers can read more on the bachelors, send them an email note, talk about them on the message board, and vote on their favorite bachelors.

So is Watchman hot or not?

If one goes by the ever-so-scientific and reliable Internet poll placed on Watchhman's page, maybe not. The poll shows that 86 percent, or 11,060, of respondents say "Not" while 13 percent, or 1789, say "Hot."

Some of the other regular guys aren't faring so well either. In the cut-throat world where the definition of attractive seems to change every minute, guys like David Haradin, a 34-year-old sculptor from Colorado with a 91 percent "Not Hot" vote and Robert Siegel, a 28-year-old writer from Wisconsin with a 83 percent "Not Hot" response, are suffering from the whims of click-happy surfers.

So take yourself over to the web site or pick up a copy of the magazine and judge for yourself. Who knows, maybe if you catch Watchman's attention with an interesting note, you just might get the chance to spend some time on his 20,000-acre ranch.
