A number of businesses and various industries have been hit hard since September 11's terrorist attacks, but not Connecticut's tribal casinos.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation took in $68 million on its slot machines last month, an increase of 3.2 percent from September of 2000. The growth came while facing competition from an expansion by the neighboring Mohegan Tribe.

The Mohegan Tribe took in $54 million on its slots, up 14 percent from September 2000. The tribe late in the month opened a $1.1 billion expansion.

Both casinos have added slot machines recently. Per their gaming compacts, the tribes give 25 percent of slot earnings to the state.
