DECEMBER 19, 2000 The new $80 million casino being constructed by Sandia Pueblo will have a distinctive "Pueblo" feel thanks to a group of Pueblo artists who are helping out with the design. The group of youth and adult artists are helping design artwork, create tiles, design casino coins and tokens, and paint murals. The tribe is not paying the artists, but is providing them with all the materials. The casino is expected to open in May 2001. Sandia is one of 12 tribes who are being sued by the state for failing to remit 16 percent of their revenues to the state. Get the Story:
