JANUARY 26, 2001 The Southeastern Connecticut Council of Governments on Thursday drafted a legislative proposal to seek an additional $10 million a year in slot machine revenues from two tribal casinos in the state. The proposal calls for a third of the estimated $30 million that is expected from expansion at the two casinos to be distributed to towns most affected by the casinos. The towns which host the casinos would get 25 percent of the $10 million, members of the council would get 50 percent, and the remaining 25 percent would go to a regional infrasturcture fund. One town official said the proposal might be hard to justify before state lawmakers. Both the Mohegan Sun and Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation are expanding their casinos. The $30 million is expected to come from the expansion. Get the Story:
