Arizona's tribes have opponents

MARCH 13, 2001 As tribes in Arizona continue to expand their gaming operations, their opponents in the dog and horse racing industry continue to try and fight then. The two industries have seen their profits slump ever since tribes started opening casinos. Now they want to prevent Governor Jane Hull from neogotiating new gaming compacts with tribes that could possibly allow for more slot machines and other types of games. The industries are also trying to get slot machines for their own facilities in order to steal back customers. Horse tracks in New Mexico can have slot machines, thanks to the state Legislature. The tribes' compacts expire in 2003. Get the Story:
