Native corp posts record profits

MARCH 14, 2001 Cook Inlet Region Inc., an Alaska Native corporation, expects to post fiscal year 2000 profits exceeding $100 million thanks to investments in telecommunications, real estate, and construction. The profit would be the largest ever for an Alaska Native corporation, said University of Alaska Anchorage economist Steve Colt. Revenues last year were $380 million, said president and chief executive Carl Marrs, and the company paid out $314 million in special dividends to shareholders in December after a stock windfall.
