Tribe considers casino sites

MARCH 21, 2001 David Rosow, the financial backer for the Eastern Pequot Tribe, said the Connecticut tribe will try to persuade New London that a casino in the town would be beneficial. Rosow said the the tribe is looking at 15 sites in the southeastern Connecticut region but that the top choice is the Adm. Harold E. Shear State Pier in New London. Along with the Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribe, the Eastern Pequot Tribe received preliminary recognition from the Bureau of Indian Affairs in March 2000. The comment period was extended by six months is set to expire at the end of this month but Attorney General Richard Blumenthal has asked for another extension. The state and three Connecticut towns, Ledyard, Stonington, and New Preston, are suing the BIA for recognizing the two tribes. Get the Story:
