MAY 17, 2000 The Catskills Development Group has approached the Cayuga Nation of New York, hoping to find a replacement for their failed deal with the St. Regis Mohawk. The Mohawk recently dumped the Catskills group in favor of Park Place Entertainment, the world's largest gaming company. But that development could take years given tribal opposition in the form of a $12 billion lawsuit against the company. Park Place also needs federal approval in order to bring the land they intend to use for a casino into trust for the St. Regis tribe, while Catskills already received BIA approval for a 30 acre portion of land they own in April.
