A recent telephone poll of Rhode Island voters indicates that the overwhelming majority want a referendum in November on the casino proposal by the Narragansett Tribe.

The University of Rhode Island study reports that 87 percent polled want to see a referendum on the tribe's proposal for a casino in West Warwick. As part of their settlement over their land claims, the tribe is bound to follow state laws concerning gambling. State law requires voter approval on all gambling issues.

The study was conducted by the University's Research Center in Business and Economics.
