Changes to compact process killed

The Government Administration and Elections Committee of the Connecticut Legislature has killed a proposal that would have required tribes comply with state environmental regulations if they want to negotiate a gaming compact.

The committee chairman said the provision was eliminated because the state doesn't have the right to tell another sovereign what to do.
