Calif. gaming commission criticized

JUNE 15, 2001 California State Senator Jim Battin, R-La Quinta, says the state's new gaming commission has been going too far in its attempt to regulate tribal casinos under its temporary director. As a result, Battin says the state should not renew the contract for Robert Traverso. Although he says he hasn't acting on behalf of tribes who contribute heavily to his campaign, Battin opposed a bill to fund the commission with $1.35 million in funds. A number of tribes have also complained about the new commission. Get the Story:
