WEDNESDAY, JULY 18, 2001 Norwich city leaders say they would be receptive to any economic development proposal the Eastern Pequot Tribe of Connecticut might put on the table now that plans for a casino in a nearby town have been scrapped. The tribe says Norwich is under consideration as a potential casino site. The tribe on Monday withdrew a casino proposed for New London. The tribe is waiting to hear final word on its federal recognition petition. A federal judge has ordered the Bureau of Indian Affairs issue a final determination by the end of the year.
