JULY 19, 2000 The profits at the two casinos of the Salt River Indian Community in Arizona are the subject of debate in the upcoming election for the tribe. Some members want more of a share of the profits and more than 600 have signed a petition which proposes to divide 35 percent of casino profits among the 6,200 members of the tribe. A prior petition with 1,500 signatures called for 25 percent to be shared. So far, the tribal council has opposed per capital payments. The election for the council takes place September 5 and four of the eight candidates running for three seats support them. Get the Story:
