The Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island and Boyd Gaming Corporation have dropped their option on 185 acres of land in a West Warwick Business Park. A casino was to be built on the land with support of the local town, but plans were stalled by the state legislature.

The tribe has already paid about $75,000 to the town of West Warwick, of which the town has spent about $5,000. A spokesman for the town said the town is free to use the money for whatever purposes.

The tribe plans to continue its efforts to open a casino in West Warwick with or without the Boyd Gaming Corporation as its partner.
