State still working on compacts

SEPTEMBER 11, 2000

California is still working on sorting the legal details on compacts with tribes in the state, although The Associated Press says they don't know much about them.

The compacts limit the number of slot machines all tribes can operate. But the exact number is still up for debate.

Tribes must also pay a fee of $1,250 per slot machine but the state doesn't know how much money each has contributed so far to a fund to help non-gaming tribes.
