Officials mull opening D.C. airport

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2001 Federal Aviation Administration officials are still deciding whether to open Reagan National Airport in Washington, DC, the only airport which remains closed more than a week after the terrorist attack on the nearby Pentagon. Bush administration officials and some lawmakers want the airport closed because of its close proximity to the White House and the U.S. Capitol. But others say the economy depends on the airport being open. The FAA says it might open the airport gradually. Meanwhile, some of the employees displaced by the attack on the Pentagon have been set up in offices in nearby Crystal City. The Pentagon was hit by a plane hijacked from Dulles International Airport. Get the Story:
