Okla. tribe lays off workers

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2001 The Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma has laid off 60 people from its casino due to an ongoing dispute over gaming machines it was offering. The tribe had been ordered by a federal court to remove the offending machines. Revenues dropped by 40 to 50 percent as a result, said a casino manager. The National Indian Gaming Commission and the court considered the games Class III, which cannot be operated without a compact. Get the Story:
