TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2001

Just a few months ago, the St. Regis Mohawk's plans to open a casino in the Catskills region of New York were seen as far off but thanks to a bill signed into law, the tribe is quickly moving towards development.

According to the tribe, the Bureau of Indian Affairs is getting ready to complete an environmental review of trust land the tribe needs. This process usually takes the longest.

The tribe is also getting ready to sign a deavelopment agreement with Park Place Entertainment, the world's largest gaming company. An agreement will be signed by the end of the week, according to a spokesperson.
