Study of Indian economic power sought

Some tribal leaders are pushing for a study that will quantify for the first time the economic might of Indian Country.

Such a study is underway by the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. The school's Harvard Project on American Indian Economic Development is conducting a pilot project among Oklahoma tribes.

John McCoy of the Tulalip Tribes of Washington wants the National Congress of American Indians to do the same for all tribes. But some question how the impact of gaming revenues, which are largely private, would be separated from other development by tribes.
