Arctic Slope Regional, an Alaska Native corporation chartered under federal law, had revenues in excess of $1 billion in 2001, the company reports.

The impressive earnings are the second in the row for the Barrow-based, Inupiat-owned corporation. The 8,000 shareholders own a wide range of businesses, from tourism to oil to communications.

The corporation supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Shareholders own subsurface mineral rights to land in the refuge and the Inupiat village of Kaktovik has surface rights.
