MONDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2002

The Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island and partner Boyd Gaming are back at it again, announcing on Saturday they have teamed up to try and open a $500 million casino.

The tribe's attempts over the years have failed. But this time, the tribe hopes the economic climate will convince lawmakers, who have to approve the deal before it goes to the voters, to sign off on a casino.

The tribe is subject to state criminal and civil jurisdiction. The laws prohibit casino gaming unless authorized by state voters.
