Debate begins today on legislative proposals to expand gaming in Nebraska.

Tribes would benefit from any of the bills on the table. One would amend the constitution to allow Class III gaming in Indian Country.

Another would allow tribes to set up casinos in "buffer zones" near the state's borders. The Santee Sioux Tribe, which operates a tiny casino that federal authorities want shut down, said it is interested in the idea.
