The Department of Justice on Thursday withdrew its offer to settle federal obstruction of justice charges against accounting firm Arthur Andersen.

The charges were brought in connection for document shredding done on behalf of Enron Corp., a former client. But the firm said it couldn't agree to conditions just yet and asked for an extension.

The request was rejected. Outlines of an agreement were expected this week.
