S.D. plan keeps majority Native district

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2001 A South Dakota legislative panel on Tuesday approved a plan for redistricting the state that preserves majority Native districts. Under the plan, a single House district encompasses the Cheyenne River Sioux and Standing Rock Sioux Reservations. A majority Native district combining the Rosebud Sioux Reservation and much of of the Pine Ridge Reservation is also in the plan. The plan will go for final consideration before the Legislature during a special session beginning October 23. Get the Story:
