Cherokee Carson wins House seat

NOVEMBER 8, 2000 Cherokee Nation tribal member and attorney Brad Carson has won the 2nd Congressional District seat in Oklahoma in his first foray into public politics. Carson defeated his Republican challenger Andy Ewing with 55 percent of the vote. Ewing received 42 percent. As a member of the House, Carson has pledged to make sure a land reform bill affecting the Five Civilized Nations will clear Congress. The bill would make changes in the land allottments of tribal members. It was introduced in October on the Senate floor. Get the latest results:
