DECEMBER 21, 2000 Outgoing Montana Governor Marc Racicot on Wednesday met with President-elect George W. Bush but turned down an offer to be the new Attorney General, citing a need to stay at home with his family. Bush today plans to resign today as Texas Governor, leaving Lt. Gov Rick Perry to assume power. Bush will dedicate more time to the transition and will name Paul H. O'Neill, chairman of the aluminum company Alcoa Inc. as Secretary of Treasury. It is reported that Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson has accepted Bush's offer to be Secretary of Health and Human Services. New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman has reportedly accepted to head the Environmental Protection Agency. On Wednesday, 22 transition chiefs were named to act as liasons for the incoming administration.
