Lazio still paying for Senate loss

FEBRUARY 7, 2001 Former Representative Rick Lazio (R) of New York is still paying for his loss to Senator Hillary Clinton (D) last November and owes about $3 million dollars but only has about $300,000 cash on hand. He's writing campaign supporters to help pay for his outstanding debts. Adding to the loss was the return of $124,050 to donors, many of whom had contributed over a $1,000 limit. The Senate race between Lazio and Clinton was one of the largest in state history. A total of $69.3 million was spent by both candidates. Get the Story:
