MARCH 6, 2001

Tribes in Oklahoma are worried that upcoming results from the Census 2000 will result in loss of federal funds and underrepresentation in political districts.

Leonard Maker, senior planner for the Osage Nation, says as many as 40 percent of the tribe were missed in the 1990 Census. He said the 2000 count will be worse.

Choctaw Nation Chief Greg Pyle also believes federal funding is at risk.
