HHS Budget: AIDS funding to increase

APRIL 9, 2001 The Department of Health and Human Services today will increase funding for AIDS programs by $688 million, or 7 percent, The Washington Post reported on Sunday. In related news, The New York Times today reports that President George W. Bush will name Scott Evertz as director of the White House Office of National AIDS Policy. Evertz is considered to be the first openly gay or lesbian person appointed to a position by a Republican administration.
