In an interview with the Albuquerque Journal, Former Energy Secretary Bill Richardson on Tuesday said he will form a committee this fall to explore running for Governor of New Mexico, his home state.

But he won't make a final decision to seek the Democratic nomination until January 2002. However, he won't run against Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) for New Mexico's Senate seat, he said.

Richardson is a former Congressman who represented a district with a large Hispanic and American Indian population. He served as Secretary of Energy under President Clinton beginning in 1998.
