MacDonald apologizes for crimes

MAY 7, 2001 In a written statement, former Navajo Nation Chairman Peter MacDonald has apologized for the actions which put him in jail. MacDonald also thanked the Arizona Legislature on Thursday for lawmakers' support in seeking his release from prison. MacDonald was convicted in 1993 on federal charges of inciting a riot and accepting bribes. His 14-year sentenced was commuted by Bill Clinton on his last day as President in January. In 1997, MacDonald also wrote an apology letter. Get the Story:
