Former nominees push for faster process

JUNE 15, 2001

The Presidential Appointee Initiative on Thursday released a bill of rights signed by former nominees of the past three administrations that calls on the Senate and the White House to ensure current and future appointees are given timely and reasonable consideration.

The nominees -- from the Reagan, elder Bush, Clinton eras -- criticize the process for taking so long. They say it can be arduous and seemingly irrelevant at times, resulting in potential candidates dropping out.

The Presidential Appointee Initiative is a project of the Brookings Institution. It is intended to be non-partisan.
