JUNE 20, 2001

Republicans have convinced Senate Majority Leader Thomas Daschle (D-S.D.) to consider giving President Bush's Supreme Court nominees a guaranteed vote on the full Senate floor.

Daschle will present the proposal to Senators but hopes they will not approve it.

Republicans are worried about Democrats holding up Bush's nominees in the Judiciary Committee. They had originally wanted guaranteed consideration for appointees to the federal bench but have settled just for Supreme Court nominees.
