FRIDAY, AUGUST 31, 2001

Freshman Congressman Rob Simmons (R-Conn.) is seeking to meet with Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb to discuss a number of Indian policies as they affect his state.

Simmons hopes to discuss federal recognition, gaming and land-into-trust. Specifically, he wants to ask McCaleb about the pending recognition of the Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribe, the Eastern Pequots Tribe, the Golden Hill Paugussett Tribe and the Nipmuc Nation of Massachusetts.

Simmons is currently mediating a dispute between the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and three towns over trust land.
