MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2001 The Connecticut State Ethics Commission has fined the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation $40,000 for serving meals that exceeded the limit for state officials, public employees and their families. State law limits gifts of food and drink to $50. But at two events -- one at the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia and the other at the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles -- the tribe served dinners that cost between $110 and $120. Apparently trying to get around the limit, the tribe's lobbyists told guests the cost of the meal was $48. The tribe entered in a settlement with the commission on the fine. Get the Story:
