Jeff Benedict, author of a controversial book challenging the genealogy of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, will officially enter the running on Saturday for the Democratic nomination in Connecticut's 2nd Congressional district.

The seat is currently held by Rep. Rob Simmons, a freshman Republican. Simmons is mediating talks between the tribe and three towns over land-into-trust.

In an opinion piece published in a Connecticut newspaper, Benedict advocated terminating the Mashantucket Tribe. Benedict is a Democrat.
