Hedging by the Bush administration over what proof to release linking Osama bin Laden to terrorism probably won't prevent Americans from supporting the President, the latest New York Times / CBS News poll shows.

An overwhelming 92 percent of poll respondents said America should take military action against those responsible for the hijacking and terrorist attacks of September 11. Should the response involve troops, about an equal percentage of respondets put the casualties at less than 1,000 (28 percent); between 1,000 and 5,000 (28 percent); and more than 5,000 (27 percent).

Bush's approval rating is 89 percent, up from 50 percent in late August.

The poll also found doubts over the economy: six in 10 say the nation is in a recession while just two in 20 say the nation is nearing one.
