Connecticut Gov. John Rowland (R) on Tuesday said he wants to stay out of a land-into-trust dispute involving the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.

Rowland also said he doesn't want to get innvolved with federal recognition even though the state's attorney general, Richard Blumenthal, has been fighting two other Pequot tribes.

Rowland met with three towns who are challenging land-into-trust and recognition. He said they mostly discussed economic impacts of casino development, which the towns feel are negative.

The towns are fearing more development. The tribe is planning to meet with Rowland on economic issues but wouldn't specify any exact plans, if any.
