With all major news organizations having deserted Secretary of Interior Gale Norton's contempt trial, coverage of the second day of the proceedings is scant.

All the better perhaps, for Norton will soon be heading to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to participate in her first formal consultation session. She will meet with numerous tribal leaders to discuss her controversial proposal to strip the Bureau of Indian Affairs of its trust responsibilities and hand them to another agency.

Today, though, Norton will be in Nevada and will visit the Hoover Dam. Aides last night said they were still busy writing her speech.

Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb will be headed out to New Mexico today.

Tex Hall, president of the National Congress of American Indians, will be the "Indian in the Spotlight" on Native American Calling today at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
