The Connecticut town of Ledyard has asked Rep. Rob Simmons (R-Conn.) to request a Congressional investigation into the federal law that the granted the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation federal recognition and set the borders of its reservation.

Mayor Wesley J. Johnson said the purpose of the General Accounting Office investigation would be to clarify the intent of the law. The law, he believes, should limit the size of the reservation once and for all.

Along with the towns of North Stonington and Preston, Ledyard made such an argument to a federal appeals court. The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals last fall rejected the position.
