THURSDAY, JANUARY 17, 2002

Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-Nev.) is urging constituents to write President Bush and pressure him not to approve a controversial nuclear waste dump in Nevada.

Berkley's web site has a form letter she suggests people use to state their opposition. Berkeley is one of a number of Nevada politicians who oppose the Yucca Mountain project.

Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham has decided to recommend the site become the nation's nuclear waste dump and will forward the formal notice to Bush in the coming weeks.

Area tribes also oppose the dump.
