THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2002

Congressional candidate Jeff Benedict on Wednesday denied criticism that he is a one issue candidate despite all his media coverage focusing on his push to terminate the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut.

Benedict, in announcing his desire to seek the Democratic nomination for the 2nd Congressional district, said he would focus on a number of areas including tribal issues and health care. The press has focused largely on termination, federal recognition and casinos, which he has pushed in his campaign fundraising.

Benedict also denied claims he helped defeat former Congressman Sam Gejdenson, also a Democrat.
