Edward T. Begay, the Speaker of the Navajo Nation Council, testified in New Mexico state court on Monday about the need for more House districts with a Navajo majority.

Begay said plans the tribe has drawn up have six majority Navajo House districts in the northwest part of the state. He said the districts reflect growing interest and participation in the political process by tribal members.

The state's House districts are in dispute by several groups, including tribes. A judge is trying to resolve the mess.
