MAY 23, 2001 Cody Witherill has never lived on a reservation and wasn't raised in an Indian family but he is still proud to be representing Indian Country when he races in the Indy 500 on May 27. Witherhill qualified for the race this past Sunday. He's the second Native American to compete in the 500, following in the footsteps of Cherokee driver Joie Chitwood. Witherill was adopted when he was four months old and raised in California. Get the Story:
