Editorial: Talk sense into Conn. towns

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2001

In an editorial today, The Norwich Bulletin criticizes the leaders of two Connecticut towns for dropping out of talks with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.

The paper says the leaders of Ledyard and North Stonington are doing citizens a "grave disservice" by quitting talks over trust land. The paper says the leader of Congdon, who is not abandoning discussions, might be able to "talk some sense" into his colleagues.

The two towns say the tribe's offer to limit land-into-trust applications to 880 acres over the next 35 years are not enough.
