Knocked over during a storm last month, the Medicine Tree is revered by Indians and non-Indians alike.

Considered sacred to the Salish and Kootenai Tribes, the 300-year-old tree is located in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana. The tree figures largely in Salish creation stories and the tribes are preserving the site even though just a small part remains.
