"After much thought about Chris Powell's Oct. 7 column concerning Jeff Benedict's Sept. 29 announcement speech, I felt a letter needed to be written. While Mr. Powell makes some good points and recognizes some of the broad issues associated with Foxwoods and Indian gaming (gambling), his views are that that of the political establishment. From that perspective, they are shortsighted and superficial. In contrast, Mr. Benedict's positions show a deeper understanding of the issues, recognize the longer-term ramifications and display the advocacy shown by a leader. . ."
