MONDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2001 "As President Bush rightly emphasized in his brief television address, these military actions represent just one front in a wider campaign that also includes diplomacy, intelligence and law enforcement. Getting the proper balance will be complicated, and maintaining it will involve both skill and national self-control. These airstrikes are probably only the first element of an unfolding military campaign in Afghanistan. Later, special forces may be used to hunt down terrorists. There may be other actions aimed at weakening the Taliban's grip or dislodging it from power. . ." Get the Story:
